Kazaa is a file sharing system that allows you to share files with other users of the internet and you can even get the files needed from other users directly. For this the user has to download the Kazaa program and install them in their system. Once it is installed they can search for files in the system of the others similar users. If they want to share some files to other users, they can do so by placing the files that needed to be shared in the shared folders meant for this purpose. Earlier this kind of peer-to-peer sharing was done using Napster but that was using a different architecture and hence it went for some legal issues. The architecture used by Kazaa is a decentralized system where it allows the users to contact directly and share the files. In the Kazaa network some of the users are considered the super nodes based on the configuration of their system while others are considered as ordinary nodes. Search for a file would go up to 7 levels deep from a node. Once the file is located then that particular user who is having the file and the other one who requested the file would be directly connected.

UPS stands for Uninterrupted Power Supply. When the main electric power supply fails, the UPS helps you to retain the electric power supply for sometime so that you can wind up your work without abruptly stopping it. Depending on the model that you use the power supply could be maintained for 20 minutes up. The UPS has a battery that is charged continuously when there is power supply. Once the power supply is cut the battery that is charged earlier supplies the power to the devices. This is the basic principle by which the UPS works.

The input to the UPS is AC, internally it is converted to DC through rectifiers and stored in battery, the power from the battery is converted back to AC through an inverter and this power is the output of the UPS. When there is a power supply you will be alerted by the UPS usually by some sound signals indicating that the power is supplied from the battery. If you are using an UPS for working with your computer, upon getting this sound signal you can finish up your work and shutdown your system before the power from the UPS goes down. Thus by properly shutting down the system you prevent any damage to the hard disk in your system.

You would have recorded your voice in your computer and played it later. In this process the sound is sampled at a very high rate and stored. In Voip (Voice over IP), the same is done and the difference is that the sound is sent across to another computer using the IP network and then played in the other computer. The technology that is used in place is the Voip technology. To send voice to the other computer, you need to compress it in your end and the same should be decompressed at the other end to save bandwidth. It will a lot of time if send it as it is. For this purpose Codecs are used for compressing and decompressing.

VPN, the virtual private network is used to connect remote office and employees together so that they work together using the same resources. A VPN helps the company to reduce the transit time, operational costs, and transportation costs, and increases the productivity.

Remote access VPN and Site to Site VPN are the common two type of VPN found. In the remote access type the LAN of the company is connected to the remote user using a Network access server. This Network Access Server is provided by the Enterprise Service Provider. Using VPN client software the remote users can dialup the NAS and access the LAN of the company.

In the Site to Site VPN, the connections could be intranet or an extranet. In the intranet type different sites of the same company are connected by the internet usually. In the extranet type the company’s network is connected to say for example, their business partners, dealers, etc using the internet.
